Recognizing Rebranding Mistakes

Posted by Karen Kerski

A longstanding luxury brand changes their logo and Twitter lights up with negativity.

Whether you are a loyal customer or not we all recognize Lord & Taylor. I personally prefer the classic script logo. The elegance and flow remind me of the their luxury brand image. It's saddens me when I read a post saying the reason for the update was the 20 and 30 year olds can't read script. Funny that you still are required to sign your name to important documents yet script is thought to be outdated.

It will be interesting to see whether their rebranding has an impact on the brands efforts to be contemporary. The reason to update a logo so drastically is to reinvent and re-engage. Tiffany hasn't felt the need to change tehir look with clean font on turquois box. Coca Cola Classic has kept their look as well.Do you have a strong opinion on these logos?

Does it stand up to the brand impression of make you think of a Sharpee marker?

Posted by Don Keller

It was billed as the 'Mobile-geddon' event.  On April 21 2015 Google rolled out their mobile update. It was to be pure mayhem, websites quite possibly dissapearing overnight and never to be seen again!  We'll what happened? How has your site fared?   We're you mobile ready? Google algo updates that happen frequently and the mobile requirement was a trending topic for months in advance and after the launch of the requirement of a site to be responsive. I still find sites that are not mobile friendly and it is almost a year since the "Mobilgetton Scare". I just turn my phone horizontally and most are legible.

How email subject line affects open rates.

Posted by Karen Kerski

I find it time consuming to go through emails that don’t have subject lines. When I need a client’s attention and fast response the subject line lets my client know what I am writing about. I don’t need to include “Urgent.”

The purpose of an email as is in any direct response campaign is to get the recipient to take a specific action. We stress the importance of keyword in a website and they are as important in the email subject line. Consider the keywords that would motivate a customer to click on a result in a Google search. A subject line has that same opportunity to motivate the action to open it.
